Hand Applied Emulsion, which is my favorite method of printmaking, is a process where
you apply gelatin silver print emulsion on paper to make it light sensitive. I apply
the emulsion using a goats hair brush because I prefer to have visible brush strokes on
my prints. The coated paper is left to dry, and then exposed and processed
traditionally in a darkroom.
The finished prints are toned with selenium or sepia to create an archival quality image
with a beautiful tone.
Do you do your own printing?
Because I was traditionally trained using a darkroom, I print all of my own work both in
the darkroom and digitally.
What is a Silver Print?
A Silver Print, also known as Gelatin Silver Print, is the technical term for a Black & White photograph.
What is a Cyanotype?
The Cyanotype is an old photographic printing process that was invented by Sir John
Herschel in 1842.
The image is created by coating paper with a light sensitive solution; a negative the
size of the finished print is placed on the coated paper and placed in a contact
printing frame. The image forms from exposure to UV light.
I like to use sunlight to expose the Cyanotypes, but I will, on occasion, use a UV light
box for consistent results.
Is your website name on the print I buy?
The watermark that is visible on the images will not be present on the purchased print.
What shipping provider do you use?
We use UPS to ship our prints; Complimentary shipping is provided within the 48 continental United States.
What is the Digital Mat?
The Digital Mat is a digitally printed mat which mimics a real mat. This style of print is a cost effective method of ownership which looks incredible when framed and hung on a wall.
When framing this type of image, use a spacer to keep the printed image away from the glass or acrylic.
What is Archival Mat?
The photograph is matted using an acid-free 2 ply white mat board to protect and help preserve the print.
The photographs are sized according to the intent and/or message I wish to convey.
The 13 x 19 Digitally Matted Fine Art Prints will have a photograph size from *11 x 14 or slightly smaller. 13 x 19 is the outside dimension of the paper.
Archival Matting will have a print size from *11 x 14 or slightly smaller and single matted to 16 x 20.
